Welcome to Thuy Huong Marrickville, a charming Vietnamese restaurant nestled in the heart of Marrickville at 304 Illawarra Rd, NSW. Known for its authentic flavors and warm atmosphere, this family-run gem has become a local favorite for both newcomers and regulars alike.
The first thing you’ll notice about Thuy Huong is its inviting and clean environment, a testament to the effort put into maintaining a pleasant dining experience. Many guests, including satisfied customers like 'Panther,' have noted the generous portion sizes and the reasonable prices, making it an excellent choice for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank.
One of the standout dishes you must try is their Bánh Xèo. While some reviews suggest that the batter and fillings could be more flavorful, the complementary house-made fish sauce receives high praise for its deliciousness. It's a perfect example of how classic Vietnamese cuisine is rooted in balance and harmony.
If you're a fan of noodle soups, the Combination Beef Pho is a must. Its broth, rated 9/10 for its well-balanced spices, delivers a comforting and flavorful experience. As Roland Zhang highlighted, the pho's generous serving size ensures you're getting great value for your money – ideal for a hearty meal that warms the soul.
For those adventurous enough to explore beyond the usual suspects, the Bún Riêu is a delightful option that reflects authenticity, although it may have a sour flavor that not everyone will enjoy. The restaurant is also noted for its exclusive fish noodle soup, a rarity that brings the essence of Northern Vietnamese cuisine to Marrickville, making it a must-try for fans of this particular style.
Thuy Huong Marrickville consistently impresses with its attentive service, swift food preparation, and a menu that keeps diners returning for more. As E rightly mentioned, this establishment has become an institution, blending the nostalgia of home-cooked meals with the bustling spirit of Australian city life. Whether you’re craving a bowl of comforting pho or curious about their unique fish noodle soup, you’re in for a treat at Thuy Huong.
In short, Thuy Huong Marrickville doesn’t just serve food; it serves a warm, inviting experience that transports you to the heart of Vietnam with every bite. 19/7/24 - 4.5 stars Another of the many great Marrickville Vietnamese restaurants which I'm slowly visiting one by one. Much like it's neighbours, its humble, welcoming and clearly family run. Service is fairly quick and attentive allowing for how busy it can be. Food is made to order with authentic flavours though perhaps not the best but still very good. I'd certainly visit again to try other parts of the menu. Banh xeo Flavour: S, 8/10. Batter and fillings are honestly a bit bland but that has been a trend I have observed. House made fish sauce was really good though. Texture: S, 8/10. Crunchy but fairly oily. Value: S, 8/10. $17 is quite good value actually compared to other places Combination beef pho Broth: SS, 9/10. Delicious with well balanced spices Beef: S, 8/10. Decent but didn't have any cartilage/tendon Value: S, 8/10. $18 Bun rieu: A, 7/10. Quite authentic but sour flavour doesn't suit me. Good amount for $18.

I always have the Bún Riêu and Bún Chả Cá, and both dishes were really satisfying. The portions were generous, especially for the price, which was very reasonable. What impressed me the most was how clean the place always is and how genuinely friendly the staff are every time I visit. This is a simple, comforting place that consistently delivers good food and warm service.

Thuy Huong has been an institution of the Illawarra road restaurant strip that is dominated by Vietnamese restaurants that has withstood the test of time. They are famous for their fish noodle soup which you do not see in every Vietnamese restaurant so it is a bit of a rarity. It is a must try. Their pho is also quite good and is a generous serving size for the price. They have plenty of regulars coming in to order the fish noodle soup but also their bun cha.

If you are from the Northern part of Vietnam and missing that (hard to find in Sydney) Northern touch of flavours, this is the place to go. I tried their Bún Chả Cá (13) just after a trip back home and I gotta say it’s as good as the good ones in Nam. Will definitely return and strongly recommend.

So many Vietnamese restaurants to choose from in Marrickville and Thuy Huong is another with great food. My wife ordered the special beef noodle soup and i had the chicken vermicelli. We both loved the food. We would definitely eat here again.
